Homebound delivery is available to anyone in our library district who is unable to travel to the library due a disability or illness. “Homebound” is defined as generally being confined to one’s residence either temporarily due to illness or accident, or permanently due to disability, age, or mobility issues. In most cases, if a patron drives, they would not be considered homebound.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all the following conditions:

• be a resident of the Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library District.
• be currently confined to your home due to a permanent, long-term disability, or a temporary condition that will last six weeks or more.
• have a SSCHPL library card in good standing.

Deliveries

• Library materials will be checked out for 4 weeks.
• Patrons will not accrue late fees, but will be responsible for lost or damaged materials. 
• Deliveries will occur once a month, depending on staff availability and weather.
• Staff are not authorized to complete any other errands for patrons.
• SSCHPL reserves the right to reassess any applicant for eligibility as well as the right to cancel delivery services at any time.
